Enjoying the Outdoors: Clayton’s Parks and Trails

One of my favorite things is being able to enjoy the beautiful North Carolina weather. Fortunately, at The Walk at East Village there are a plenty of opportunities to do just that! Clayton, NC is known as the premier community for active families, so of course, there’s a ton of stuff to do when it comes to the outdoors.

Go for a Hike

trail through the woodsWhether you’re looking to take a leisurely stroll or a hardcore hike, there’s something for everyone.

The Mountains to Sea Trail goes right through the middle of downtown Clayton. On this trail you can walk all the way from the mountains to the outer banks (if you so desire). The portion that runs through Clayton has an easy difficulty, and is accessible for hikers as well as cyclists; plus there are also ADA accessible areas.

The Neuse River Trail is a 10-foot wide asphalt path that passes through Clayton as it meanders from Falls Lake Dam to the Wake County line. It prides itself as the longest greenway trail in North Carolina (and the longest paved greenway trail between Virginia and western Georgia).

Picnic in the Park

When it comes to parks in Clayton, NC there is no shortage! Here are a few of our favorites:

  • Clayton Community Park– This park is gorgeous. With unpaved wetlands to explore, as well as a ½ milepicnic in the park with strawberries of paved trail, there’s always something new to discover. Complete with picnic shelters and wildlife viewing areas, the Clayton Community Park is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon.
  • East Clayton Community Park– This is one of Clayton’s newest parks. Home to multipurpose playing fields and a 1 mile trail, East Clayton Community Park is very popular with the residents of Clayton. Its popularity is only going to grow as there are future plans for an additional picnic pavilion and a disc golf course.
  • East Clayton Dog Park– Now we will have our own Dog Park at the Walk at East Village, but it’s definitely nice to have options. Plus at the East Clayton Dog Park, you’ll have the chance to mingle with people in the greater Clayton community.

More Stuff To Do

For rainy days, there are alternatives! The Clayton Community Center is a beautiful brand new facility that includes an indoor walking track, and large gymnasium.

Clayton, NC boasts one of the best parks systems in North Carolina – and it’s not surprising! Clayton knows how to keep its residents active. Definitely a town deserving of the title “the premier community for active families.”
