Clayton may be a small town, but it knows how to hold its own when it comes to community events. Spend summer nights at Town Square—located on Main Street in the heart of Downtown Clayton—for outdoor concert series and movie nights under the stars. And if you’re feeling hungry, there are more food trucks and vendors at these events than you can imagine!

A true small-town staple, the Square to Square Independence Day Street Festival takes place annually and draws a massive crowd to the downtown streets. The festival kicks off with a bicycle parade, concludes with a fire truck drive down Main Street, and has a variety of activities in between.

Summer doesn’t mean you have to slow down

For those who want to stay active this summer, there are ample recreational activities in and around Clayton. The miles of trails throughout the community provide a safe place to exercise, including the Neuse River Greenway Trail. A favorite among residents, this 27.5-mile scenic trail is located just minutes from The Walk and is the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll or upbeat bike ride.

The Walk’s bocce and pickleball courts serve as unique outlets to exercise while still having fun. Pickleball combines elements from badminton, tennis, and ping-pong to create a simple game that you can pick up quickly—but no worries if you’re an experienced player, we’ve seen this game get competitive, too!

But if you do want to slow down…
